[chongo's home] [Astronomy] [Mathematics] [Prime Numbers] [Programming] [Technology] [contacting Landon]

Also known as 3(73)1441, this palindromic prime was discovered by Landon Curt Noll sometime in 1997. Not only does this prime read the same forward and backward, it does so with undulating prime decimal digits. This prime is a large palindromic prime with undulating prime digits.

This number was likely proved to be prime while testing an ECPP algorithm implemented on a special purpose hardware based primality engine. It is likely that this prime was also proved prime by another test such as a Cyclotomy related test in that same year. This 37 EMail message is the first time this result was disclosed.

The primality of this number was confirmed by Hans Rosenthal on 7 June 2001.

At the time of discovery (1997) and confirmation (7 June 2001), this prime was the largest known palindromic prime. That record was broken on 19 Oct 2001 by the proof that 9(89)2429 is prime.
